In 1884/1885 A. Wiley Hill died of a stroke, followed closely by his grandsons, Wiley Hill of pneumonia and Blanton Hill of a cold. Grandma was so unhappy that she asked Augustus, Evaline and their two remaining children (Eva and Ben) to move back to Hills Prairie from their home in Cedar Creek.  From Eva’s memoirs:

“A new chimney to the big south room had to be built, and Mr. Alf and Gus Jung pulled down the chimney their father had built years before and rebuilt it with most of the same brick. (Assume the family needed heat in the south room.) While that was going on, Mama to Dangue fever, which was all over the contry. The negroes were off on “cotton picks” and we could get no help. I had to brag on myself, but Mr. Gus Jung bragged on me as long as he lived about how well I managed to cook for them all.”
