Rodrigue, George

Cajun artist George Rodrigue was born in New Iberia, Louisiana in 1946.  Trained in California and New York, he became well-known for his distinct, primitive images of Cajun subjects, and especially for his creation of the ubiquitous "Blue Dog" (a term that lent itself to the recent political coinage "blue-dog Democrat," referring to a conservative member of the Democratic party).  Rodrigue has collaborated on two books, Blue Dog, and the children’s book, Le Petit Cajun: Conversations with André Rodrigue (written from his son’s perspective).  He has also published The Cajuns of George Rodrigue, a collection of paintings about Cajun culture.  Among his most famous works are "The Ailloli Dinner" and "Three Oaks."  He has exhibited his work at major galleries in the United States and abroad. Rodrigue owns a Lafayette restaurant called Cafe Tee George.
