I have posted a flickr link to the photos of our restoration and progress. To review our progress, we purchased the property in August 2004. We hired architect John Volz and Associates and began to research the property history, staying in the historic house on weekends when we visited Bastrop from California. We designed the guesthouse to look like a barn and to include a pool, pool house, outdoor kitchen and pavilion. This construction was completed by fall of 2006 and we celebrated Thanksgiving.

The old house was stripped down to the bone, removing all of the add-ons put there by the movie companies and the bathrooms, kitchens, sheet rock or any other modern conveniences added during the 60's by the Duff family. We removed the stone skirt around the foundation. This was to keep as much pressure off the fragile foundation as possible.

We then began to work with Volz on the historic house restoration and the new construction for modern living quarters on the back. After searching for the right contractor, we hired Richard Oberhaus from Lubbock as our contractor and he brought in Joe Tongate as his craftsman. Joe began immediately patching up the wood using dutchman patch methodology. Richard began with the foundation leveling. After 15 months of construction we are beginning to see real progress. The foundation is in place on old and new construction, the add on is framed, roofed and siding is going up. Windows have been restored and are in.
