On August 14, 2009, a tornado hit our place. We were on vacation, but were called shortly thereafter by our neighbor to inform us of the news.

The historic house and guest house are relatively fine. We completely lost the historic Hills Prairie post office, our cook pavilion...while still standing has lots of damage as does the pool house. Columns on the main house damaged by the scaffolding. Lost 3 very large oak trees and 7 pecan trees and several mesquite trees, that we wish we had cut down, as they caused a lot of the damage...one went through the barn wall. Much of the cemetery restoration damaged...6 graves down, fence torqued which cracked the concrete base.

The most expensive damage was the tree removal and salvage. We had hired a company from Dallas to come down and put lighting in all the canopies of the oaks and we lost most of that before we had a chance to enjoy it.

All and all, it could have been a lot worse.
